Why Park Power
We’re the greatest utilities provider that ever existed, perfect in every way. There are no possible downsides whatsoever!
Of course that’s not true—you know it, and we know it. So we thought we’d offer you this list of pros and cons to help you decide if Park Power is right for you.
PRO
Your utilities will be just as reliable.
When you’re with Park Power, you’re still tapping into the same reliable infrastructure that ensures everyone in Alberta has safe, consistent, high-quality access to electricity, natural gas, and Internet—no matter what company they’re buying it from. Here’s more on where the power comes from.
CON
The regulated charges on your bill will be the same.
As much as we’d love to offer you cheaper regulated charges, that’s not one of the powers of Park Power—or any Alberta utility provider, for that matter. Regulated charges like the distribution charge are the same price no matter what company you’re with. They’re the price we all pay to have safe, reliable electricity and natural gas in Alberta.
PRO
Buy utilities from a small business that supports the local economy.
When you buy utilities from us, you’re supporting a small business based in Sherwood Park instead of a big corporation with overseas call centres.
CON
You no longer get to buy utilities from big corporations.
Try not to lose too much sleep wondering how they’ll survive without your money.
PRO
Choose a local charity to support.
We share 10% of our electricity profits with local Alberta charities. Support a charity of your choice just by signing up with us! There’s no extra cost to you. This donation is on us.
CON
You have to choose from nine charities.
They all do such worthwhile work, you might have a hard time deciding which one to support. See our partner charities.
PRO
Bundle your electricity, natural gas and Internet.
Make life simpler and get three utilities in one tidy bundle from one smooth operator: your friendly, local Park Power.
You can roll your electricity and natural gas bills into one monthly invoice and keep track of it all in our easy-peasy MyAccount portal.
We also have bundle discounts. You can’t bundle when you’re with a regulated rate provider like EPCOR.
CON
You no longer get to keep your eggs in different baskets.
What will those empty baskets do without their eggs?
PRO
No sign-up fees for electricity and natural gas.
We share 10% of our electricity profits with local Alberta charities. Support a charity of your choice just by signing up with us! There’s no extra cost to you. This donation is on us.
CON
Sign-up fees for Internet.
Here are the cable Internet sign-up fees and DSL Internet sign-up fees.
PRO
Get a fixed rate that protects you from energy market spikes.
- In the cold, dark winter months when we need more energy, the market price tends to climb. A fixed rate protects you from higher energy bills in the winter.
- If there’s a summer heat wave, a natural disaster, or some other event that causes the market price to spike, a fixed rate protects you from big jumps in your bill totals.
- You can’t get a fixed rate when you’re with a regulated rate provider like ENMAX.
CON
Sometimes the market price is cheaper than a fixed rate.
- That’s why we also offer variable energy rates. They float along with the ever-changing market price, and you can change to a variable rate whenever you want.
- We wanted to have more bullets here to match the other bullet list, but the first bullet covers it. Sorry!
PRO
If you like playing the market, we offer variable energy rates too.
If you like to gamble, we also offer variable rates that consist of the monthly market price plus a small transaction fee.
CON
Sometimes the variable market price gets expensive.
That’s why we also offer fixed rates that you can change to whenever you want. You can’t do that when you’re on a regulated rate with a company like Direct Energy Regulated Services.
PRO
Change your energy rate anytime. No fee!
Got second thoughts about the rate you picked? No worries. You can hop into the MyAccount portal and change your rate whenever you feel like it. No fee.
CON
You need to remember your password for the MyAccount portal.
Where’s that password again?
PRO
Green your power.
With our Green Power program, you can support the production of renewable energy by adding a small Green Offset Charge to your power bill. If it doesn’t fit with your energy budget, you can pass on it.
CON
We can’t ensure that your power comes from renewable sources.
While we’d love to do this, that’s not within the scope of our program. But we still do some cool stuff with green power.
PRO
Braveheart would like us, because we will never take your freedom.
You’re free to cancel with us anytime. And there are no cancellation fees or penalties when you cancel electricity or natural gas.
CON
We do need a few days to set you free.
Electricity and natural gas: No cancellation fees, but we need 10 business days’ notice if you wish to cancel.
Internet: We need 30 days’ notice if you wish to cancel. No exit fees except this: if you cancel within the first 30 days of signing up, we charge a $100 fee.
PRO
Get A+ customer service.
We know that dealing with utilities isn’t always a bag of fun. We do our best to make it easy and painless for you, and we work hard to make sure you have the best customer experience possible.
CON
You might miss the challenge of trying to solve problems on your own.
If so, do not contact our friendly, knowledgeable Customer Support team at 780-640-2128 or customercare@parkpower.ca.
PRO
Switching to Park Power is easy.
It really is! There’s not much to it besides filling out our online Sign Up form or having a chat with our Customer Support team.
For electricity and natural gas, nobody needs to come to your place and interrupt your day. We do the set-up off-site and behind the scenes—no sketchy appointments, no hassles.
In many cases, you don’t even have to notify your current energy provider that you’re cancelling. We take care of it for you.
CON
Internet set-up may require a visit from a technician.
A technician may need to pay you a visit depending on what kind of Internet you’re getting and what your current set-up is.
